Have you ever watched a infant play?  They are crawling around with this great wonder in their eyes.  Everything is an adventure.  So much to see, so much to explore, and everything is new and wondrous.  There is this joy in exploration, in creating, in learning, in growing.

They decide to try something and reach to lift themselves up to stand.  The joy on their face the first time they do it.  They hear a noise behind them, it is their mommy who has just clapped and praised them for their new milestone, and they turn around with this beautiful smile of joy and pleasure.

They do not worry about getting into something they shouldn’t.  They do not worry about falling when they try to stand.  It actually comes as a surprise when it happens.  They don’t worry about what they will eat today, or where they will sleep.  They don’t worry about change.  One minute they are playing on the floor, the next they have been whisked into a confining area and moving backwards, the next they are being wheeled around to all these big people with grey hair, the next they are plopped down with people that are almost the same size as them, the next they are in a place with loud music and backs towards them, and they do not bat an eye.  They actually watch and listen and sometimes start babbling with glee.

They do not fear of what happened yesterday will happen today, or what will tomorrow hold.  They are completely and fully engrossed in the moment.  The toy they are playing with has their complete attention.  The piece of food in their hand is their whole world, ignoring all the rest on the tray in front of them. When they are distracted or something else grabs their attention, they are not upset of what they lost or just had, they go with the flow of what is happening like a fish to water.

Why are these infants so calm and collected?  It is because they know that someone is there and nearby.  They know that the caregiver is their for them.  They know their needs will be met.

When an infant cries it does because it is trying to alert someone that there is a problem.  They expect to be heard.  They are expressing themselves on what is going on, but when they truly cry, it is like a prayer to their parents “I need help, please come help me.”  And every parent that hears that cry responds.  They hear the expression and respond in love.  With the change of a diaper, with getting them ready for bed, for feeding them, for comfort after a fall.

My daughter does not fear or worry about the future or what will happen next, for she completely trusts that I am there for her and will fulfill her needs, all she needs to do is ask and it will be given to her.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you know much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour of your life?

And why do you worry about clothes?  See how the flowers of the field grow.  They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothes you – you of little faith?  So do not worry, saying ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”   Matthew 6:25-34

Father please give me the faith and trust in you that my daughter has in me.

In Jesus Name, Amen
